Uniform UIs are the enemy. Problems are not uniform, and solutions should fit their problems.

At least Apple made some (quite futile, remember Java apps) attempt to make the UI uniform so you could more or less expect it to work in a predictable way (sometimes) and to look a bit less ugly.
We may not like it, but it is the way things are proven to work commercially.
