Absolutely. The linux desktop (even with tiling WMs) is not a good example of a meaningful alternative. We don’t have any of the attributes I covered in Composability, Homogeneity, and Language-based Systems in X. Interesting alternatives to the Apple UI guidelines are substantially more obscure & lie generally far outside the UNIX ecosystem (although plan9 has some of them).
